Extract from “Malay Chamber of Commerce wants focus on Asean market”

KUALA LUMPUR: The government needs to focus on the Asean market and other regional trade agreements instead of a massive trade pact, the Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) said.

Its president, Syed Ali Alattas, said Malaysia should take advantage of its chairmanship of Asean to expand into the regional market of 600 million people.

“The Malaysian market is already good. Now we need to give priority to making further inroads in the Asean and Asian markets. We also have the D8 (Developing-8) countries (to explore).
