Stance: Against TPP

The US have left (in good time!), why not renegotiating the pact to give everyone a better deal? If they want to keep pushing for the TPP, why not at least reconsidering whatever they had been imposed on, now that the bad guys are gone?

Stance: Pro TPP

Even though the TPP isn’t great, if we don’t make this trade agreement, China will make their own that benefits them. The TPP does more than just lower tariffs. It also has environmental regulations, bans child and slave labor, and protects intellectual property. Although free trade may be more beneficial to corporations than it is to regular people, the other parts of the agreement could help everyone.

Stance: Against TPP

The main bone of contention is whether the proposal would be revealed to the American public for review, GMO Sources (for food products for internal use) & the labeling of the country of origin of product to ensure it does not come from countries exploiting slave labor such as Vietnam, Malaysia & other developing countries.

Stance: Against TPP

“A June 2015 New York Times poll found that 78 percent of Americans said they had heard or read “not much” or “nothing at all” about the TPP.” If news do not appear on the media, did the fact happen? Why are we kept on the dark? Evidently it’s not good for people, so then you’d rather keep them ignorant of the matter.

Stance: Against TPP

This idea of a high income nation is just propaganda, it’s just a chimera. And the idea that TPPA will enable this to happen is just nonsense. We can see from studying the present situation in the USA itself that the standard of living of ordinary people there has been dropping and more and more wealth is being concentrated in the hands of the few. As members of the TPPA, we in Malaysi more...

Stance: Against TPP

The TPPA makes me uncomfortable because it lacks the inclusiveness “ingredient”. The fact that content of this agreement is kept away from the eyes of the public is an indication that the negotiations are kept secret from the people of the country. As a citizen concerned about the environment, the TPPA leaves no room for a signatory country to protect its natural resources and biodi more...

Stance: Against TPP

Check out what MITI’s Minister Mustapa said will happen after TPP gets implemented: “We feel that at the moment, there is too much freedom on social media and there is a need to review this with the hope of controlling it. We decided to study the matter and may impose control to prevent undesirable elements on social media.” Forget about criticizing the government in your facebook. TP more...

Stance: Against TPP

Malaysia already tried to negotiate a free trade agreement back in 2007 with the US, yet it failed: Malaysia pulled out because it reached the conclusion that there were no gains for the country, only losses. Back then there were 58 red flags. How many are there with the TPP? 75! (http://www.janganjualnegara.com/#/redline) S more...

Stance: Against TPP

It seems Mustapa doesn’t know that Malaysia already has signed free trade agreements with most of the countries from the TPPA… It only doesn’t have with Peru, Mexico, Canada and the US. Peru and Mexico are rather small markets, not much to worry about. The US is imposing all its conditions on the FTA, actually delivering its own FTA template from which to start negotiating. Stance: Against TPP

It contains faith-based IP provisions (Lemley. 2015) as opposed to evidence-based IP provisions. Huge pharmaceutical lobby behind it, with PhRMA lobbying the US Trade Representative directly. Malaysia already pays more for medicines compared to countries in the same income bracket, 84.7% of originator medicine requests are substituted with generics, and health budgets are being cut every year. TRIPS+ provisions is not what patients here need.
