Thought on TPP after reading “On fear mongering and the TPP”

Stance: Against TPP

This idea of a high income nation is just propaganda, it’s just a chimera. And the idea that TPPA will enable this to happen is just nonsense. We can see from studying the present situation in the USA itself that the standard of living of ordinary people there has been dropping and more and more wealth is being concentrated in the hands of the few. As members of the TPPA, we in Malaysia will be in the same position as Puerto Rico, which is a colony of USA. Wealthy Americans will be able to take over this country and impose their will on the country through ISDS and the power of multi-national corporations, like Monsanto which is now suing the Government of California for daring to place Glyphosate the main constituent of the widely used herbicide Round-Up to its list of chemicals that cause cancer. This is just one example of this kind of international power. Signing the TPPA will not enable Malaysian industries to have a free trade to US markets. It will merely choke Malaysian industrialisation and condemn it to primary production, such as mining and mass agriculture. When Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan suggested to Malaysians to work 2 jobs to make ends meet – that is just laughable and shows how the rich people at the top of the tree in this country have no idea of the privations of ordinary folk. from Hassan Abdullah
